With the help of Lehr Hemenway of Bloomington Cycle and Fitness we approached Bill Wasson and Mike Steffa, the two main park officials, with the idea. They were very receptive but at the same time skeptical due to past experiences with groups similar to ours.
We had our first meeting at Bloomington Cycle and Fitness and formed the club. We decided on the name Comlara Off-Road Bicycling Association (C.O.R.B.A), and that for the time being we only needed a president, so the club members formally elected Gary White. We decided on a $10 individual and $20 family fee for the first year. We chose to meet every first Wednesday of the month at 6:30pm at Bloomington Cycle and Fitness and to have trail day the following Saturday.
During our short but productive history we have nurtured a very good relationship with the park officials through our hard work and over $4000 of grant money gained for the park from State Farm Insurance and Cargill Seeds in the name of several of the club members. We have gained permission to build new trails on the west side of the Spillway in which we have already made a new 1 mile trail on the south side of 6 mile creek and have made preliminary markings of at least a 2 mile trail on the north side of the creek. Through the access to the parks' tools and mowers we have performed constant maintenance and upkeep to all the mountain bike trails. We occasionally have group rides at Comlara as well as other area trails. CORBA, Bloomington Cycle and the McLean County Department of Parks and Recreation put on a fall mountain bike race to promote the sport as well as to have a lot of fun.
If you would like to become a member of CORBA please fill out an application and become part of our fun and productive club.
CORBA is an equal opportunity offender. We will make fun of all of our members
regardless of ability level, gender, height, weight, width, shoe size, hair color, etc. The
question is not if we are going to have fun at your expense. The question is when and how
often. This is an environmentally-sound, family friendly and cube safe environment. No
hikers, equestrians, politicians or animals were used during the final testing phases of
this website.
